What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad offers students the opportunity to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while working together in teams. Students participate in fun and rewarding tournaments. Events are changed or revised every year so that students continue to learn new ideas and concepts.
Who Can Participate?
At Churchill Road, students can participate in Division B (grades 5 and 6) or Division A (grades 4 and 5) of Science Olympiad. Students who are interested in STEM will enjoy participating. They will expand their scientific knowledge and other skills with hands-on experiences and collaborative teamwork.
For additional information, review the Parent Information Slide Show (viewing the presentation is not a substitute for attending the mandatory parent meetings).
Science Olympiad B
Division B is for CRS students in 5th or 6th grade. Students will participate in a regional tournament competition which will determine potential qualification for the state tournament. The tournaments are highly competitive (Division B includes middle school), covering a diverse set of science and technology topics that are designed to expand on the Middle School science curriculum. Note: Due to COVID-19, regional tournaments for 2020-2021 will be held in a mini-SO format. A mini-SO tournament takes place entirely at home, disallows the hands-on component of events, and tests will be administered virtually and graded by SO.
More information will be available in late September, with registration expected in October.
Interested parents and students must attend one of the mandatory orientation meetings on DATE TBA. A lottery to determine participants will be conducted on DATE TBA (if number of interested students exceeds the maximum). After the lottery, parents will be notified via email regarding lottery status and provided instructions on completing registration and payment.
Please contact our Science Olympiad B Coordinator for any questions about Division B.
Meetings schedule will be announced when available.
Science Olympiad A
Note: Due to COVID-19, SO-A will not be held in the fall of 2020 but may be held in spring 2021 (April/May). Check back for more information.
Division A is open to CRS students in 4th or 5th grade (5th-grade students already participating in Division B may not participate). Students will prepare during Fall to compete in a Science Olympiad Regional tournament held locally. This inter-scholastic competition encourages learning in biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, problem solving and technology through a variety of events. At least one parent of each student must serve as a mentor for one of the competition events.
Interested parents and students must attend one of the mandatory orientation meetings: TBA; meetings will be in the library. If necessary, a lottery to determine participants will be conducted on TBA (note: a lottery is typically not required for SO-A). If a lottery is held, parents will be notified via email regarding lottery status and provided instructions on completing registration and payment. Students will be placed on a wait list once maximum enrollment has been reached.
Please contact our Science Olympiad A Coordinator for any questions about Division A.
The club will meet weekly on TBA after school from TBA to TBA.
