What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad offers students the opportunity to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while working together in teams. Students participate in fun and rewarding tournaments. Events are changed or revised every year so that students continue to learn new ideas and concepts.
Who Can Participate?
At Churchill Road, students can participate in Division B (grades 5 and 6) or Division A (grades 4 and 5) of Science Olympiad. Students who are interested in STEM will enjoy participating. They will expand their scientific knowledge and other skills with hands-on experiences and collaborative teamwork.
Science Olympiad B
Division B is for CRS students in 5th or 6th grade. Students will participate in a regional tournament competition which will determine potential qualification for the state tournament. The tournaments are highly competitive (Division B includes middle school), covering a diverse set of science and technology topics that are designed to expand on the Middle School science curriculum.
Interested parents and students must attend one of the mandatory orientation meetings. Check back for dates in late August. A lottery to determine participants will be conducted after the orientation session.
Please contact our Science Olympiad B Coordinator for any questions about Division B.
Meetings will start in mid to late September and continue through March. Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Science Olympiad A
Division A is open to CRS students in 4th or 5th grade (5th-grade students already participating in Division B may not participate). Students will prepare during Fall to compete in a Science Olympiad Regional tournament held locally. This inter-scholastic competition encourages learning in biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, problem solving and technology through a variety of events. At least one parent of each student must serve as a mentor for one of the competition events.
Interested parents and students must attend one of the mandatory orientation meetings. Check back for dates in late August. Registration will be open on DATES TBA on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will be placed on a wait list once maximum enrollment has been reached.
Please contact our Science Olympiad A Coordinator for any questions about Division A.
The club will meet weekly on Mondays from 3:30-4:45 after school during the fall. There will be no Division A club in the spring.
Introduction to Science Olympiad
Have a 3rd or 4th grader who’s curious about Science Olympiad? Register them for our spring “mini-club” and they can experience what Science Olympiad A is all about! Each week students will have hands-on fun with building events plus they will practice their research skills for study events like Astronomy and Anatomy. Our “mini-club” is a great way for students to try out Science Olympiad.
Check back later in the school year to find out whether this class will be offered and if so, for registration dates and cost.
Please contact our Science Olympiad A Coordinator for any questions about this class.
